To achieve Goal Zero, we focus on the three areas of safety hazards which have the highest risks for our type of activities: personal, process, and transport safety.
In pursuit of Goal Zero, we work relentlessly to strengthen our safety culture, focusing on caring for people and leadership commitment. A strong safety culture is complemented by a competent workforce. We ensure that people responsible for tasks with a significant safety hazard have the necessary training and skills. Our safety experts work tirelessly to share and implement best practices in the Oil and Gas Industry.
Safety is our top priority. Everyone who works for us, or with us, has an important part to play in making Decy operations safe. We expect them to comply with the safety rules and regulations relevant to their work, to intervene to prevent unsafe conditions, and to respect fellow workers and the communities in which we work.
Our people often work in demanding roles and extreme conditions. They may have many different hazards to manage, whether in offshore locations, construction work in remote locations, or the transport of people, equipment and products. Whatever they do, they always ensure that they can operate safely before they start work.
Everyone who works for us, or with us, has an important part to play in making Decy operations safe. We expect people to take personal responsibility in three areas:
Every Decy employee and contractor must follow our 12 Life-Saving Rules. These cover the most critical safety hazards that have caused loss of life in the Oil and Gas Industry. We run regular campaigns to remind people what the rules are, how they are applied, and why they are so important.
We believe that good working and living conditions help to bring about a safer and more productive working environment. Keeping our employees and contractors safe and well is our top priority, no matter where they are working. Thousands of our contractors work on construction sites away from home – good working and living conditions help to bring about a safer and more productive working environment.
We continue to implement our Accommodation and Welfare Guide, published in 2014, which provides guidance on the living conditions for employees and contractors who work away from home. This helps to establish a consistent standard for people who build our facilities around the world.
We also make sure that any employee or contractor working for Decy has access to medical expertise within four hours from where they work – no matter how remote their work location may be. This is possible using advanced telemedicine technology. The technology help doctors better diagnose illness and injuries in the field by bringing specialist medical expertise, through video connection, to some of the remote places where we have operations. It is reducing the need to
We are committed to protect the environment, respect our neighbours, cause no harm to people, and help the world move towards a lower-carbon future.
Our world needs energy to support and improve life for a growing population. Decy provides energy in a responsible way: we aim to limit any impact on the environment and support the transition towards a lower-carbon future.
What responsible means for us
For Decy, responsible means respecting national laws and international standards, matching or exceeding global best practice and setting our own rigorous performance standards. Our core values of honesty, integrity and respect for people underpin our decisions and actions.
Being responsible means understanding the impact Decy can have on the environment and the communities we share it with – before, during and at the end of our operations. We always try to make a positive contribution to the local environments in which we operate and seek to reduce any potential negative impacts.
Safety is vital to us when undertaking welding activities. Ignoring your PPE and safe working practices can have serious repercussions and might even lead to fatalities. At Decy we ensure our employee and contractors follow the safety precautions below to protect yourself at work.
We ensure our employees always Wear Appropriate PPE
We provide our employee with appropriate PPE and training on how to use them. They include:
We ensure our workspace is well ventilated.
Good ventilation is important when welding as it removes airborne gases and particles from your work area. You may need to employ a combination of ventilation strategies to combat all the pollutants created in the welding process. You might also need to use respirators if your ventilation strategies don’t reduce your exposure enough.
We ensure our workspace is free of flammable material.
You should avoid keeping flammable materials in the vicinity of welding processes as sparks, heat and molten metal splatters produced in the welding process could potentially set flammable material on fire.
Process safety starts at the early design phase of building facilities and continues throughout their life cycle, making sure they are operated safely, well maintained, and inspected regularly to identify and deal with any potential process safety hazards.
Process safety involves making sure our facilities are well designed, safely operated and properly maintained to prevent leaks of hazardous materials. We use structured processes to manage our asset integrity and prevent leaks, spills and any other technical failures or breakdowns.
